With the August heat making us all long for cooler days, the Guadalupe River provides a perfect escape for Boerne families. With a canopy of cypress trees and a bank of pebbles, this Texas staple is iconic, whether you prefer floating, swimming, or jumping. After all, we could all use a day on the river! Check out these locations for your next family adventure!

Guadalupe River State Park

Just a half-hour drive from Boerne, this state park provides a convenient escape to nature. There are plenty of spots along the river to explore, float, or swim. The park also includes a number of hiking trails that lead to incredible views of the Hill Country.

Cibolo Nature Center

Although it’s not a part of the Guadalupe, Cibolo Creek is a more conveniently located escape from the heat. Located just down the road from Boerne City Park and Champion High School, Cibolo Nature Center is a great place to spend a day in the water without leaving city limits. The park also provides trails and a large playground to let your kids’ imaginations run wild.

Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area

Located to the North East of Boerne, Kreutzberg Canyon is a great lesser-known spot on the Guadalupe, perfect for families trying to escape the crowds. It even includes blinds that are perfect for viewing and photographing birds and wildlife. Whether you want to spend time on the river or explore the banks, this is a great spot!

Bergheim Campgrounds

Live closer to Bergheim? No problem! The Bergheim Campgrounds are a great place to explore the Guadalupe. From here you can rent kayaks or canoes, or you can bring your own. Paddling the river is a great way to enjoy all the Hill Country has to offer!

With these options, we hope you find one that is easy and convenient for your family! Put on some sunscreen and grab a snack– we’ll see you there!
